Architecture and Jungian psychology have made a profound impact on Judi Elliott’s artistic career in glass for over thirty years. Enrico’s Walls reflects the artist’s response to the built environment. Her home and studio in Canberra, Australia, were designed by the architect Enrico Taglietti in 1979 and completed in 1983. While Elliot’s creative explorations have evolved to push the aesthetic and technical boundaries of fused and slumped glass, layers of meaning are imbued in the abstract geometric composition. The bright and colorful front symbolizes the persona of her home, like an individual’s social character presented to the outside world, whereas the distinct back represents the concept of the shadow, one’s hidden side that may appear unconsciously in dreams.
