Based in Düsseldorf, Germany, Michael Behrens creates sculptural work in glass that is inspired by nature. Since the mid-2010s, the artist has created an array of works inspired by the underwater world in the Seaforms series. Each work embodies his vision “to create objects in which you can see and feel the energy of nature.” The artist’s use of transparent blue glass allows light to filter through the layers that were fused together in the casting process. The shape of Seaforms 172 appears as if it grew organically with internal patterning that is reminiscent of cellular bone growth.
