Debora Moore’s unique vision translates the beauty and complexity of nature through the medium of glass. Her glass orchids and bamboo shoots appear amazingly life-like, as she has developed new ways to create distinct surfaces and textures that are inspired by the natural world. While hot-sculpting glass, Moore takes artistic license in playing with colors in her interpretation of Paphiopedilum, or Lady Slipper orchids. These flowers are distinctive for their slipper-shaped pouches in a contrasting color to the rest of the flower petals. For the Seattle-based artist, her work is a meditation on nature, capturing the essence of the flower in glass rather than trying to reproduce one exactly as it is found in nature.
