These two pieces, with their lack of all-over patterning, provide the opportunity to consider the delicate wire work of the Turkomen tribes. Silversmiths formed the wire, then braided or scalloped it to form the borders and sections of these pieces and to create a filigree effect. The lushness of the multiple chains and dangling forms contrasts with the simple silver background of the solid portion and the strong color of the carnelians, providing a harmonious synthesis.
