Women of the Turkomen tribes are justifiably famous for their textile skills, particularly evident in their woven and embroidered carpets and other colorful fabrics. Hats such as these were worn by Turkomen girls until they became ready for marriage, at which time they wore elaborate headdresses. The ornamentation is typical of the jewelry of these tribes, both those created for girls, and the head decorations worn by married women. The embroidery patterns are echoed in the jewelry, since they share the same cultural origins.
