George Cruikshank

George Cruikshank was the youngest son to Isaac Cruikshank and Mary MacNaughton. Cruikshank belonged to a family of visual artists. Specifically, George Cruikshank was a graphic artist. He learned from watching his father and older brother in the studio of his childhood home. George watched many of his loved ones pass away before him including his father, wife and brother. That being said, George took on responsibility for his family and worked with many affluent members of the arts community including Charles Dickens. The highlight of his life was considered to be from 1835 to 1845. After that time period, George worked with social reformers and attended temperance meetings. As his life progressed, Cruikshank’s experienced less success in the art world and accumulated a large amount of debt. George Cruikshank died in his home from an acute respiratory infection on February 1, 1878.
