BiographyRobert Isaac Cruikshank was the eldest son to Isaac Cruikshank and Mary MacNaughton. Robert Isaac was a caricaturist and a portrait painter. Like his younger brother George, Robert Isaac had learned his craft from his father Isaac. Robert Isaac greatly desired to enlist and go into war but his parents successfully sidetracked this urge by sending him out to sea. After returning from his sea voyage, Cruikshank devoted himself to studio work. Over his lifetime, Robert Cruikshank produced thousands of images and portraits some even commissioned by royalty. Towards the end of his life, Cruikshank illustrated a few books however, he became ill and was unable to continue working. After winning a drinking game, Cruikshank fell comatose and he never got his health back. He died of bronchitis on March 13, 1856.
