BiographyRichard B. Hobart was a prolific collector of Ming and Qing dynasty Chinese paintings, many of which he acquired from the late dealer Walter Hochstadter. After Hobart's passing, a portion of his collections were sold through Sotheby's Parke-Bernet in 1969; of those, a Lan Ying landscape album dated to 1642 reached unexpectedly high price and was then bought by the Metropolitan Museum.
