BiographyIn 1875, Baron Raimund von Stillfried, an Austrian photographer and nobleman, associated with another photographer named Andersen of whom little is known. They operated a studio called "Stillfried & Andersen" in Yokohama, Japan. This studio was also known as the "Japan Photographic Association" and operated until 1885, at which time Stillfried left Japan. Stillfried & Andersen produced a photographic album entitled "Views and Costumes of Japan" (no date). This album documented the traditional costumes of Japan. In 1886, most of the stock of Stillfried & Anderson was sold to Stillfried's protégé, the Japanese photographer Kusakabe Kimbei.
