This painting, attributed to Edwin Deakin (1838–1923), is believed to be a copy of a watercolor by the Japanese painter and printmaker Yoshida Hiroshi (1876–1950), c. 1900. The Yoshida painting was once owned by Deakin's brother, Frederick H. Dakin of Berkeley, California, and his wife. Family documents record that Deakin copied the painting and titled it "Shizaki" (sic.). For more information and an image of the original watercolor, see the online catalog of Scholten Japanese Art, https://www.scholten-japanese-art.com/printsH/3429.
