Hoppenhaupt was the official decorator of Frederick the Great of Prussia who worked in the Emperor’s palaces in and around Berlin. This monumental cabinet, designed to fit in a corner, combines simplicity and solidity with opulence and whimsy. The cabinet is a standard shape, made mainly of plain walnut, and its base is unadorned. But above, the mirror is flanked by columns which look like the branches or stalks of plants bursting into bloom, and the cabinet is crowned with fanciful and asymmetrical flower motifs.
