The Ringling Museum has an exceptional group of Renaissance furniture and sculpture originally collected by the Parisian 19th-century collector, Emile Gavet. When it later belonged to the Vanderbilt family, it was displayed at Marble House, their Newport, Rhode Island mansion. John Ringling acquired the Gavet collection from Alva Vanderbilt Belmont in 1928.
