BiographyPainter was born in Scotland and from 1924 lived in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, where he studied art. He attended Belfast college of Art 1928-1931, and the Royal Academy Schools, London 1931-1935. He was active mostly in London and lived in the United States from 1953 to 1956, where he came in contact with the abstract expressionism of Rothko, Pollock, and Kline.
