Brought from London by P. T. Barnum, Jumbo arrived in America in 1882. The design of the poster stresses the great elephant's enormous size. With his upraised trunk, the elephant spans one half of the poster. Jumbo made such a cultural impact that his name still is synonymous for extraordinary size.
