Kawanishi Hide’s stark design celebrates the elegant minimalism of a Japanese stone garden. In a visual pun, he used blind printing (<italics>karazuri</italics>), whereby a carved block is impressed without ink to create an image in relief, to represent the patterns raked into the white gravel. Under grazing light, the tranquil garden is brought to life by the subtle play of light and shadow.
