The Seattle-based artist, Charles Parriott, produced works in the Flowered Soldier Series over twenty years, spanning from 1988 to 2008, in collaboration with Zdena Kolčova at Ajeto Glassworks in Europe. The anti-war sentiment expressed in this series builds on Hippie Glass and Flower Power of the 1960s and 1970s. Additionally, Parriott ascribes great value to hand craftsmanship and keeping historic glassmaking traditions alive. Notably, the copper red color and enameling technique employed in creating Flowered Soldier have a long history tied to glassmaking in Novy Bor.
