A pharmacist by profession, self-taught artist Ikuta Niyoko developed a method of laminating sheets of plate glass together with adhesive, thus transforming a commonplace industrial material into something of otherworldly beauty. The stepped arrangement creates a sense of gentle movement, while the distinctive green tint, a product of iron oxide being used in industrial glass production, gives the work a serene, aqueous quality
