Along with Giovanni Andrea Sirani, Lorenzo Loli was an important assistant of Guido Reni; the biographer Carlo Cesare Malvasia relates that Reni called Loli "his little Lorenzo." After Reni's death in 1642, Loli collaborated with Sirani. He is best remembered today for his etchings after paintings by both Reni and Sirani. This example from The Ringling's collection--in which Loli credits the composition to Sirani--depicts an allegorical figure of Fame holding two trumpets and floating above a globe. It may reproduce a painting (untraced) by Giovanni Andrea.
