Within the first decades after their inception, helium and hot air balloons had already transformed the studies of meteorology and geology, and revolutionized international communications, warfare, and propaganda tactics. Balloon flight helped make great advances in the field of cartography, as altitude provided a birds-eye view that allowed for an accurate visualization of both natural and urban landscapes.
