The return of Jülich to the Protestant princes was the only military event that the queen participated in during her regency. Marie is shown as a veritable Amazon in battle armor, upon a great white horse, ready to lead a charge. Ironically, the Catholic queen’s campaign weakened her relationships with her foreign allies and bolstered the Protestant cause.
