This is the first scene in the cycle. The Fates spin the destiny of the unborn Marie while Jupiter and Juno, the king and queen of the gods in ancient mythology, watch from above. The scissors of Atropos, one of the goddesses who determines a person’s fate, were omitted to stress the privileged and immortal character of Marie’s life.
