BiographyState Sen. Bob Johnson was a graduate of Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in political science. He is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, Gold Key and the Florida State University Hall of Fame. He attended Duke University graduate school and later earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida.

He is former chair of the Florida Arts Council and was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the National Council of the Arts, where he served from 1985 to 1993. Johnson served in the Florida House of Representatives, and thereafter in the Florida Senate, for a total of 16 years. He is a partner in the law firm of Johnson, Browning & Clayton in Sarasota.

Johnson has received many awards including the Westcott Medal. He introduced the concept of adopting the Ringling Museum of Art to University President Sandy D’Alemberte, and he was responsible for obtaining funding for the Florida State Performing Arts Center, the National Magnetic Laboratory, the Florida State film school, acquisition of land for the University and numerous other projects and received millions in private funds. Johnson is a distinguished graduate from both Florida State University and the University of Florida.
