The Italian word palombini, meaning “dove grey,” refers to a metamorphic marly limestone found in the Ligurian Alps. Palombini stones are shaped by geological mechanisms as well as by the weather. This small stone, delicately veined with white silica, suggests a mountain with gullies viewed from a distance.
