Carved from the tusk of an elephant, this finely worked pot is abuzz with 54 creatures, including bats, crickets, frogs and even a hammerhead worm. The animals' lively forms and expressions as they vie with one another for space (and perhaps a meal) makes this a superb example Meiji period (1868–1912) decorative art.
