Adam Forepaugh Jr. the son of renowned circus owner Adam Forepaugh, was born in 1859. The younger Forepaugh was one of the leading elephant and horse trainers of his day. In 1889, the Forepaugh show exhibited his trained animals including the trapeze horse Eclipse, a herd of dancing elephants, a boxing elephant; and Blondin, the “tight-rope” walking pony. When the show was sold to Cooper, Bailey and Barnum, Forepaugh, Jr., was retained for a seasonal salary of $10,000. Forepaugh retired because of ill health in 1893 and passed away twenty-five years later.
