Circus owners were always on the lookout for unusual elephant acts. Drawing upon the game's popularity, Harry Mooney trained a group of elephants to play baseball. The pitcher, batter with an elephantine bat and a catcher with mitt and mask would begin the game that would conclude with a thrilling slide to home base.
