Cissy McCaa has produced a range of work in her studio practice, from stained glass designs to three-dimensional sculpture. Aegis of Athena reference ancient Greek mythology in its title and faceted sheet glass that is shaped to represent the aegis, or breastplate, of the goddess Athena. The artist's abstraction of Athena's shield, symbolic of her strength, is meant to highlight 20th-century social realities for women as well as the personal experience of trying to find balance with prescribed societal roles.
