Beginning in the 1960s, Harvey Littleton influenced a generation of artists as a pioneering teacher of the American Studio Glass Movement. In leading the shift from the functional to the sculptural, Littleton advocated for experiments in form, transparency, and color. Blue Sliced Descended Form is representative of one of Littleton’s best known forms, in which he layered colors and sculpted molten glass, followed by cold-work to cut sections and polish the glass. His sculptural forms are significant for freeing the glass object from functionality.
