On July 16, 1956 newspapers quoted John RIngling North, nephew of the five founding Ringling Bros., as he announced "The tented circus as we now know it...is a thing of the past." That day saw the final performances of Ringling Bros. and Banrum & Bailey under their iconic canvas big top. This aerial photograph of the day shows the crowd gathering in the midway in advance of the perfomance.
