Garden wall tiles from the John Ringling Towers (El Vernona). This glazed tile panel depicts a picnic scene of two noblewomen in a spring garden setting. One kneeling on the foreground is carrying a bottle of wine. In 17th-century Iran, architectural tileworks of figural decoration in vivid colors and dynamic lines are commonly seen in palatial buildings, often in contrast with those of non-figural or geometric scenes in traditional Islamic styles. This panel is probably a later replica of the original Safavid-style panel produced in Isfahan, Iran, during the 17th century.
