Saitō Kiyoshi’s prints feature refined designs with simplified forms and contrasting colors. <italics>Anemones</italics> belong to a loose series of works begun in the early 1950s depicting flowers that seem to stare back at the viewer. In 1951, Saitō won the top prize among his compatriots at the São Paulo Biennale, thereby bringing modern Japanese prints to international acclaim and elevating their status at home.
