Daniel Cutrone’s work, Location, Location, Location, is intended to provoke a state of inquiry and wonderment. The title is a play on the importance of location in real estate, and the repeated image invites the viewer to observe the subtleties of depiction in the two-dimensional image enameled on the vessels and etched on the steel plinth. The artist investigates the relationship between the decorative and fine arts by exploring the idea of the repeated image. On first glance, it may appear that the same image of a figure standing in a corn field is replicated on each glass vessel and on the blackened steel base. Yet upon closer looking, subtle differences are noticeable in the scale of the figure in relation to the field, and the landscape is cropped differently in each image. By inviting the viewer to engage in closer looking and contemplation of the nuances, the artist intends for the work to consider both image and materials along with content and perception.
