In 1785 Astley’s programs included a number of historically notable performing animals. This bill features 20 individual scenes of tricks performed by a troupe of “dancing dogs”. To have made the investment in such a complicated printing plate suggests the importance and popularity of the act in relation to Astley’s offerings. ON the reverse side of the bill, readers could see that the show would also include the performance of a ”Musical Child,” rope dancing, tumblers, “feats of manly horsemanship,” a performance by General Jackoo the performing monkey, and a finale of fireworks.
