Here, Rubens combined two subjects into one scene. At right, King Henri IV, having been assassinated by a madman, is lifted to the heavens by Time and received into the arms of Jupiter, king of the gods. At left, the enthroned Queen Marie accepts an orb, a symbol of government, from a personification of France while the people kneel before her.
