Richard Anuszkiewicz's immense canvas is in the tradition of Geometric Abstraction, which explores the interaction of shape and color as exemplified by the work of Bauhaus artist Josef Albers. The very strict geometry of this canvas is not immediately evident because the striking color combinations force the eye to not recognize the intensive interrelationship of the repeating, variously scaled squares. Anuszkiewicz's work combines elements of Minimalist art with those of Op Art. Visitors who stare long at this painting will see the colors and shapes appear to "dance," an effect enhanced by the subtle change of the background color from blue to green.
