Dughet's brightly lit view seems to show a believable countryside, though it is one with figures from the ancient past. In reality, Dughet's landscape has little to do with the observation of nature. Instead, it attempts to translate ancient poetry about country life, such as Virgil's Eclogues or Georgics, into pictorial terms.
