Barbara Kruger's monumental combinations of word and image are derived from Dada, as well as from propaganda and the advertising medium that she originally studied. Kruger's confrontational and accusatory work is meant to cause aesthetic disgust and unease and she purposefully poses social and moral questions that are difficult to understand, much less answer.
