The French glass firm, Daum Frères (Daum
Brothers), rose to prominence at the turn of the
20th century for its Art Nouveau designs with
nature-inspired motifs on forms with organic,
sinuous lines. By the 1920s, Daum’s production
evolved into bold colors and abstract designs
in the Art Deco era. This vase is a product of
Daum’s collaboration with the renowned French
firm helmed by the designer, Louis Majorelle in
Nancy, France. Gaffers, or master craftsmen
who worked together as part of glassblowing
teams in the factory setting, executed a variety
of designs like this vase by blowing molten
glass into an iron armature.
