The pâte de verre technique gained its French name, meaning glass paste, in the 1880s when this ancient method of fusing powdered glass in molds experienced a European revival. However, this time-intensive and complex mold-making and kiln-casting process is rarely practiced today. Since 1987, Kimiake Higuchi has dedicated her artistic practice to mastering pâte de verre. She is one of the most renowned artists working in this challenging medium today. Higuchi has long been inspired by her extensive garden in Japan where she grows seasonal flowers and vegetables. Her reverence for the beauty of nature is evident in the carefully studied tulips and the subtle transition of coloring that captures the essence of the natural world.
