The circus street parade was designed to bring crowds to the circus lot to purchase tickets. The parade was a seemingly endless stream of wagons, bands, clowns, beautiful horses and exotic animals that added to the excitement of Circus Day. Circus posters often stretched the concept of truth. Shelby, Pullman and Hamilton was a modest operation, in comparison to circuses like Forepaugh and Barnum & London. Using a bird's-eye view to exaggerate the size of the street parade, the poster designer also used artistic license as giraffes and rhinos never walked in a parade as depicted here.
