About this ObjectBettera specialized in large still life paintings with complex arrangements of musical instruments amidst books, musical scores, rich textiles, and other luxurious collectors’ items. Hallmarks of the artist include velvet curtains edged with gold fringe, Turkish carpets used as tablecloths, and traces of dust on the objects depicted. To create texture, Bettera often pasted pieces of rough fabric to his canvases and then painted on top of them, as is evident in the carpets shown here.
